Just 15 minutes by train from the centre of Genoa is Nervi. Today it looks fabulous. No tourists so I’m sitting writing this in a cafe by the sea. It’s a pretty little town and I’m practicing my Italian where I can. For €1.50 what a bargain on the train! I think I may be settling in to this.
I’ve been thinking about loneliness and making connections with people but what I’m discovering is that maybe I’m not lonely but extremely bored with my life. Cedric said that I have a talent for making connections with people. Perhaps being taken out of my comfort zone is helping. Yesterday I had conversations with the curator of the museum, a young communist student outside the university and La signora in the focacceria… maybe I’m coming on. Italians are generous and helpful. I just need some bravery and courage to step forward.
