There is nothing like a good bone in a silver arm or a Saint behind a glass case. Spooky but fascinating.

The cathedral treasury had some beautiful objects. It houses il Volto Santo or holy Face of Lucca, a represention of Christ crucified dating from the 8th century. This was, until recently carried in procession by candlelight through the city in September 13th in a celebration called La Luninara. The celebration still takes place but without the cross. The treasury contains the golden crown with which the figure was adorned. The cross is kept in a specially built shrine in the duomo

The treasury also displays some beautiful embroidered vestments for the clergy dating from the 15th century onwards. Made of gold thread the intricate work is exceptional
