A little afternoon trip to Vicenza

A pretty little town which on a Sunday afternoon had a chilled and relaxed vibe. Everyone out for an afternoon stroll in the sunshine; a spritz, a coffee, a spremuta and some pasticceria. Musicians in the street, people window shopping (some great shops) or just taking the air. Young and old it felt so natural and easy. Is it the weather that makes it so different from England. Clean streets and no attitude.

All in all this was a really pleasant chilled afternoon…

Palladio

My main reason for visiting Vincenza was to see the buildings by Palladio, one of the great architects of the sixteenth century and influential in developing the classical style in architecture. My guide was charming and informative and we were able to discuss Palladio’s influence on the spirit of the town as it developed. The Teatro Olimpico was the first covered theatre in Europe and is a sight to behold. The scenery and backdrops were pretty staggering.
