A trip to Assisi

Assisi is rather beautiful perched on top of its hill. 3 miles from the station so you have to catch a bus into the city. Beautiful buildings newly restored after the two earthquakes of 1997 and 2016. The basilica is beautiful decorated with frescos by Giotto and Cimabue. the town itself is really hilly but it has some good buildings and wonderful views over Umbria. It’s a little quiet and rather strange. But I enjoyed my visit and the sun shone unlike yesterday in Florence with thunder, pouring rain and lightening. This weekend they had a lot of concerts celebrating the 800th anniversary of the death of St Francis. Obviously it’s a site of pilgrimage for many Catholics.
