Escape to myself

The film I’ve just seen was a documentary on Intersec. It was stunning, touching, heartbreaking and joyful. The experiences of the people interviewed were shocking and troubling and the efforts made to maintain a purely binary view of sexual identity by society and the medical profession were terrible and still exist today. What came through so strongly for me was the strength of individuals and the joy people can find in being enabled to be whoever they happen to be. I was inspired! I thought of Judith Butler and her book “Gender Trouble”. I’m even more convinced that there is a real difference between gender and sex. We each perform our gender according to our psycho-sexual makeup. Let’s be tolerant and love when and whoever we can.
