A day in Kyoto

Nojo Castle

I was woken at 5.45 by a fellow dorm mate who could not open the dorm electronic lock! Never mind … I wanted to enjoy this full day in Kyoto so had booked an early tour of the shogun’s palace at Nojo Castle and the Imperial palace. As Kyoto was the capital of Japan until 1868 the city is home to these wonderful places. Our tour guide was excellent and the group small … I made friends with a charming German girl, Aliana, and we bonded over some common experiences.

Nojo

The next stop was the old Imperial Palace still used for official functions with magnificent gardens.

After a wonderful tour Aliana and I made our way to the famous Nishiki Market … busy and thronged with locals and tourists. We sampled street food as we went … I had deep fried eels and a sweet potato dish. A lovely wander with a new friend.

Then a walk back by the river.
