After a pleasant trip through the snow capped Carpathian Mountains I arrived in a sunny Bucharest. I’ve settled into the hostel which is immaculate I have taken my usual stroll through the streets. I think it will be an interesting visit. It’s pretty busy and while it may not have the charm of some places I’ve visited I think it will provide something different. It used to be called “little Paris” and it has a wealth of neo-classical architecture. Bucharest is not an ancient city and has only been the capital since independence from the Turks and Austrians in the 1860s when it became yhe capital of the merged Wallachia and Moldavia. That coupled with enemy attack, earthquakes and a communist dictator have fashioned the cityscape. I’ll take a walking tour tomorrow and there is an interesting exhibition of Romanian art nearby. I’ve also booked a day trip to the Danube Delta for Saturday … a real experience for wildlife and nature. So let’s discover something new.
