Well I’ve just finished my last lesson. My Italian has improved and I’ve learned a lot although I got off to an over ambitious start which dented my confidence. The grammar of prepositions has been very difficult as Italian has about seven variants for each one and they use them differently … English is much simpler with no agreement in number and gender. Still I have some idea. The people on the course, Ruth, Mary and Pauline, were lovely and we had some good times together in and out of class. Our tutor Alessandro was informative and we had some good conversations so about many different aspects of life in Italy. I think as a result my conversation has improved and providing people speak slowly I can understand them. I can read it quite well. My last visit here was to a Mucha exhibition. When I was 20 I loved him … now I’m not so sure … maybe too chocolate boxy though very representative of the Art Nouveau period. Still it was interesting and I’m pleased I went.

A final final visit l… Museo Novecento … Robert Mapplethorpe

I have booked my ticket to Genoa and I leave tomorrow. A couple of days there and then Paris and the Eurostar. I’m not sure what home will hold for me. It’s been an interesting if sometimes lonely trip. I feel quite disconnected. Have I learned anything? Probably not.
