I arrived in the rain last night but the hostel is right on the main square, includes breakfast, has good lockers and you sleep in a spacious and private “pod”. It’s really cool. The morning dawned sunny and warm so I took a free walking tour of the city. An excellent guide , Luka, took us to lesser known as well as the usual tourist spots. He was very knowledgeable on the history of the city which apart from the old core is really a nineteenth century city which over the years has suffered devastation from fire, earthquakes and violent wars the most recent obviously in the 1990s. After the recent earthquake in 2020 many older buildings were damaged and are being rebuilt though churches are still closed to tourists which they are repaired. The overall vibe of the city is a mix of quaint and cool and there is a great cafe culture. All you need all a nice city for a day or two.

Zagreb has some very weird museums; The museum of mushrooms, The museum of selfies, the museum of hangovers and the museum of broken relationships to name but a few. Shall I visit?
