A beautiful day in the exquisite city with it’s architectural marvels, back streets, fascinating history and good food. I tool a long wander just looking around. I’d been once before but this time I took my time exploring.

While I was there it was the annual festival of the Drago contrada one of 17 “contrade” of the city each with it’s own area of the city and from which the Palio riders were drawn each year. Each one has it’s own flag and fiercely protected identity. The ragazzi of the contrada marched in medieval clothing with drums beating and flags flying. A great spectacle for tourists but still an important part the lives of the true Senese.

Siena has a superb situation in the countryside of Toscana high on a hill. It is rather stunning.

A lunch with vino rosso, doppio espresso and salad this was a charming day.
